Mineral oil

These are substances derived from petroleum that the cosmetic industry uses as antibacterial agents and to improve the texture of the cream so that is nice to put them on the skin. They are also one of the main ingredients of hair products, lotions, aftershave, deodorant, mouthwash, baby oil, toothpaste, etc.

Industrial use is very profitable and which are oils that costs very little gain, which for some premium over the fact that they are highly carcinogenic. Besides these substances cover the skin like plastic wrap so that clog pores, block the respiration of the cells, extract moisture from the skin and the skin removed so that it appears bright and hydrated. But apparently only because, in reality, because of the plastic layer that covers the skin is unable to meet its defense functions.

Among other things, prevents elimination of toxins through the skin and, therefore, appear acne, rashes, redness and other disorders in addition to that age prematurely. Hence, when you stop using these creams with mineral oil the skin to look dry and damaged more than when they started using.

Labels such substances may appear in their name or with Spanish America (see in this connection box). The most common are mineral oil, paraffinum, paraffinum liquidum, petroleum, etc.

They are also petroleum substances such as microcrystalline wax, the ozokerite, the ceresin and Vaseline. But among these derivatives stands out especially propylene glycol. It is a colorless liquid that forms part of the composition of many cosmetic products … And paints, detergents, floor waxes, and antifreeze and brake fluids cars!

This substance has been claimed to help retain moisture in the skin and causes it to perceive the touch smooth and silky… but what is not said is that many studies link the propylene glycol with contact dermatitis and some disorders of the kidney or liver disease, which can inhibit the growth of epidermal cells and irritate them (in fact it is considered the main irritant the skin, even at very low concentrations) and can also irritate eyes, cause gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea, headache and vomiting in addition to affecting the central nervous system.
